    Holiday Beverage Fest

    Season's Greetings!

Well, here we are smack dab in the throws of another holiday season.   This time can be hectic as there is always somewhere to be and something to do, but it is also a time to be with family and friends.  A time to share old memories and traditions, and to think about all the possibilities that the future holds.  During this season, we at AboutBeverages.com are also thinking of what beverage our hands might be holding.  We all have our favorites, from hot cocoa to egg nog, cider to a seasonal beer, or perhaps a special cocktail or bottle of bubbly.  In the coming days, we are going to share some of our favorites with you, but more importantly, we want you to share your seasonal favorites with us!  Let us know what your favorite beverage is during the holiday season, no matter what it is.  If there is a story or history behind it, we would love to read about that as well.  So whether it's naughty or nice, let's start a list of liquid holiday cheer that we can check twice, or thrice, even.  Add a comment to this blog post and we will begin to give the gift of refreshment.  If it is a mixed drink or something that needs preparation, remember to share the recipe, as long as it is not a secret.

We look forward to hearing from you!  Happy Holidays!!

Wine deals coming to a store near you!

Top wineries are beginning to sell their wines at a much reduced rate due to overstock.  In a recent article from MSNBC small business, Pinot Noir grapes that used to be sold for nearly $5,000 a ton are now selling for closer to $2,500.  Many winemakers are being left with overstock of their wines priced above $20 due to the current economic climate.  What does this mean for the consumer?  It means great quality wines can be had for a much better price.  Click the link for the full article.

How about some red wine for all you ladies out there....

The most important news to date regarding the health benefits of red wine has just been revealed.  Research has shown that drinking red wine may increase women's sexual desire.   A recent study at theUniversity of Florence tested 800 women aged 18 to 50 and found thatthose who drank one or two glasses of red wine daily scored higher onthe Female Sexual Function Index.  Unfortunately the most important thing I wanted to know is not answered in the article.  "Where do I get a copy of the Female Sexual Function Index?"

Quickly chill wine the old fashioned way...with a $40 gadget

Has this ever happened to you?  You are desperate for a perfectly chilled glass of wine, but alas all of your wine is tepid.  Well worry no longer thanks to the Ravi Wine Chiller.  It's a little device that you put at the end of the bottle and as you pour the wine becomes chilled.  The only thing you need to remember is to have this thing in the freezer six hours before use.  The inside has an internal tube made of stainless steel that does not change the flavor of the wine.  Not bad.  On the other hand you could just buy a small fridge to store your wine in so it is always at the ready.  The choice is yours.  Click the link to check it out.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Rough Draughts - Wines for Warm Weather Fare

Welcome to the first release of a brand new part of our blogcast that we are calling "Rough Draughts."  This will feature brief outtakes from our previous podcast that for one reason or another did not make the final version.  In essence, it's a compilation of audio clips that were edited out for time, yet we still felt they contained some good conversation.  Depending on the material we have, these could range from the serious to the very silly: we will try to give you advance notice on what to be listening for.

This weeks Rough Draughts features outtakes from our "Wines for Warm Weather Fare" podcast.  You will find some information about how to store your uncorked bottles of wine and a segment on a mixed drink that uses one of the white wines we tried.  At the very end, there are some quick outtakes that were just humorous.  This tiny "sip" of a podcast should help to tide you over until our next podcast about Seasonal Summer Brews.
