Give It A Shot - De Mont Coteaux Varois en Provence Rosé 2018

Due to some unfortunate time limitations, we will only have one episode to share with you this week. Next week we should be back to our normal schedule and have the extra content that you have come to expect from us. Even though the quantity is less, we hope that the quality will be more and that it will be worth it for you and for us as we switch gears to wine, and an organic wine to boot. The warm temperatures are already beginning here in the southwest so our thoughts turned to something best served chilled. A Sauvignon blanc or a rose, perhaps. After a little perusing at our local Trader Joe’s, we settled on a rose. The beverage we will be trying on today’s show is the De Mont rose made with organically grown grapes from the Provence region of France. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Chicago Cubs California Red 2015

Over the years, we have been very fortunate to have been given several beverages for us to try by our friends and people who share our affinity for discovering something new. These beverages have covered just about every type of liquid refreshment that is out there. From sodas to beers to spirits and almost everything in between, we are so grateful for your contributions and we offer our undying thanks. This show brings us another of those generous offerings and if our memories are correct, it could be the first we have received in this particular category; wine. One of Keith’s friends and co-workers, Skip, recently was in California and happened to spot this particular bottle and instantly thought of Keith. Why is that, you may ask? We will let you know that right now as we open the curtain and reveal the item we are trying on this show. We will be trying the Chicago Cubs California Red Blend 2015. All we know from the bottle is that it is made in conjunction with Plata Wines and of course that it looks cool because of the label. The website doesn’t tell us much more other than it is aged in French and American oak. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2016

While they don’t happen every week, when we can do back-to-back podcasts that are connected by a particular theme it is something we enjoy. The thread tying these two items together may not be instantly obvious, but when you look a little closer it becomes very apparent. In our weekly discussion about the items to share this week, Andrew mentioned that he had a bourbon he wanted to share and Keith wanted to stay with the wine theme for at least another week. Fortuitous events were already in motion to tie these two topics together that we were not aware of at the time. The first of the items that we will try this week is the wine portion. The wine we are trying is the Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Knights Valley. The Platinum Reserve line is the most expensive of their private label wines at $14.99 per bottle and should compare with other wines in $30 to $40 range. Without giving away too much, the bourbon we will try next has a Cabernet component to it as well. If you watch us live on Thursday night on twitch.tv/aboutbeverages (which we highly recommend) then you already knew that. What did we think? Give It A Shot - Cotillion California Pinot Noir 2016

Welcome to the second phase of our Pinot Noir comparison. To bring you up to speed, in our previous podcast, we tried the Erath Pinot Noir, which is from Oregon. If you want to know what we thought about it, please see the previous post and watch or listen as we discuss our perceptions. As we mentioned, we decided to stay with the same grape for the subsequent podcast, but decided to check out a California representation of this delicate varietal. The wine we will be trying is the Cotillion Pinot Noir. It is a Trader Joe’s exclusive and has long been a Keith recommendation for those who are looking for a Pinot Noir of a certain price and style. It has been about 2 years since he last tried it and Andrew has never tried it, so it should make for some good discussion. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Erath Oregon Pinot Noir 2016

We know that while we are truly about all types of beverages, we do tend to skew more often toward beer. It is easy to buy just one for us to talk about on a podcast and with few exceptions, the price structure is usually just what we are looking for. However, this week our fancies take a turn for the grape at About Beverages. This podcast (and the one which follows it) came about as we tried to decide what the menu would be for our Thursday night livestream session. We won’t bore you with the details, but the end result was that we would try wines this week. We settled on the Pinot Noir varietal and decided to compare and contrast the Oregon and California styles. We decided to start with the selection from Oregon and the one we chose was the Erath Pinot Noir. This is the 2016 vintage and usually runs right about $15 or $16. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Cooper & Thief Bourbon Barrel Aged Red Blend

We have often spoken of our unabashed affinity for most things barrel-aged. We say “most things” because while barrel-aging certainly can add wonderful depth and complexity to a beverage, if it is not done well, things can go awry in a most disturbing way. This podcast features a beverage aged in whiskey barrels and while it is not uncommon to see this type of product available on your favorite retailers shelves, it is still somewhat uncommon. Today we will be trying the Cooper and Thief Red Blend. It is a blend of red wine varietals aged for 3 months in bourbon whiskey barrels. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Oak Ridge Winery OZV Lodi Zinfandel 2016

We know what you are thinking. You just watched a new video from us yesterday so how could there possibly be another one available already? Here at About Beverages we are dedicated not only to beverages, but more importantly, to you, our loyal followers and listeners. With that in mind, we are happy to offer you the final installment in our series of beverages that we feel could be featured at your Thanksgiving dinner. This podcast features a wine, and a varietal that is not the first to come to mind when one thinks of Thanksgiving; Zinfandel. Over the years, this grape has made several appearances at our holiday table and has been quite successful. Hopefully this particular wine will carry that tradition forward. The wine that we will be trying is the Oak Ridge Winery OZV old vine Zinfandel from Lodi. We feel the best Zinfandels offer both fruit and spice for an overall balanced flavor profile.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Chateau Ste. Michelle Gewurztraminer

Don’t look now, but Thanksgiving is almost here! This year is one of the years when it arrives at the earliest possible date that it can. It is always the fourth Thursday of November and this year the first Thursday fell on the very first day of the month. In the spirit of trying to help you with your Turkey Day beverage selections, we have decided to share some selections that may help you make that decision. First up is the Chateau Ste. Michelle Gewurztraminer. The winery, which is located in Washington state, has many different offerings across the wine spectrum. The Gewurztraminer grape is typically known for being lower in alcohol, off-dry (or semi-sweet) with notes of lychee fruit. We are hoping this will be a great jumping off point for our Thanksgiving Day beverage guide.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.
