AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Prescott Brewing Liquid Amber Ale & Ponderosa IPA (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Continuing with our baseball theme on the show today we've got a canned beer double header.  Both beers are from Prescott Brewing and available across Arizona.  First up will be the Liquid Amber Ale and then we will try the Ponderosa IPA.  Two things stand out to me when visiting their site:  One, these appear to be the only beers they are canning at this time and two, they also like to be very coy with their ABV.  As in we can't find it anywhere.  Surely they're under 6%, but if any of our listeners know the answer or if Prescott Brewing would let us know that would be appreciated.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Mogollon Brewing Wapiti Amber Ale

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Hope springs eternal for Cubs fans and baseball fans in general as it's time once again to take the field.  Leading off today in our continuing search for a great beer in a can is Mogollon Brewing and the Wapiti Amber Ale.  Located in Flagstaff, Arizona and named after the Mogollon Rim which runs across the state.  They currently brew five beers, but the only one being canned is the Wapiti.  One other interesting side note is that in 2007 they formed High Spirits Distillery and became the first legal distillery in the state of Arizona.  I noticed on the list of their spirits was a gin which is great, but also three vodkas.  Nobodies perfect.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp Belgian IPA (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Mercury Brewing Clown Shoes Belgian IPA is a jumbling of words that almost doesn't seem coherent in any way.  Surprisingly enough within that wordgasm is a very interesting style we don't see a lot of, but is becoming more popular, Belgian IPA.  This style uses mostly American hops, but is finished with Belgian yeast and is bottle-conditioned.  The ABV for our beer today is 7% which appears to be right in the middle for other similar beers.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Crispin Lansdowne Hard Cider made with Irish Stout Yeast (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  With the enjoyment we found in our first tasting from Crispin Cider we decided to try another.  Today we have the Lansdowne Cider made with Irish stout yeast and organic molasses.  Categorized as a hard cider due to the alcohol content, 6.9%, it will be interesting to see what dimension the yeast adds to the beverage.  If you are interested in some of the other ciders we have tried in the past you can find links to those here.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Squatters Pub Brewery Big Cottonwood Amber Ale (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Big Cottonwood Amber Ale from Squatters Pub Brewery was originally part of their Small Batch Series in 2010.  It became popular enough that they decided to make part of their yearly offerings.  Only slightly off topic, we used to have a cottonwood tree in the backyard of my parents old house.  Many a fall day brought about raking up all the fallen leaves so they wouldn't eventually find their way into our swimming pool.  I can't tell you how hard it was watching my Dad do that every year, but it had to be done.  With any luck this almost sessionable beer will bring back memories to our viewers.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - 2010 Alamos Torrontes (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  I know this is not the consensus of most people who live in Arizona, but it is getting too warm too early.  Temperatures are already in the mid 80s and it feels like fall just ended.  Yes I said fall.  We don't have winter.  What we do have with these increasing temperatures is an excuse to find a white wine that will work well with these warmer days.  The 2010 Alamos Torrontes is our first attempt through video this year to find that wine.  Purchased at Trader Joe's, but not exclusive to them, this grape variety hails from Argentina and like most grapes has the capability for high quality in the right hands.  We shall find out.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout Nitro

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  In a cool piece of marketing that one can only hope will bring with it an amazing beer, Left Hand Brewing has released their Milk Stout Nitro.  Similar to their regular Milk Stout, at least based on the ingredient list found on the site, this beer adds a unique carbonated twist, nitrogen.  With a request made on the side of the bottle to pour hard, admire, and enjoy we head down what is hopefully a silky road to sweet stout oblivion.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Ninkasi, The Alchemist, Stone Collaboration Beer More Brown Than Black IPA

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Another day, another dollar, and another collaboration brew from Stone Brewing and friends.  More Brown Than Black IPA is from the collective brain trust of Ninkasi, The Alchemist, and Stone.  The idea was to create a beer that was still very hop forward, but not quite as roasty and dark as a black IPA.  The other part to this collective story is that The Alchemist Brewery is in Waterbury, Vermont and was hit quite hard last year by hurricane Irene.  To help out the surrounding area proceeds from the sale of this beer will go to help out families affected by the hurricane.
