Give It A Shot - Cooper and Thief Tequila Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc

We did not really plan it at the time, but we now realize that there is a common thread to the two items that we are trying this week. No, we are not trying another Metallica beverage collaboration or something from Stone Brewing. The theme, albeit a loose one, is that both of these beverage purveyors have made previous appearances on our show this year. Metallica made an appearance in March with their Blackened Whiskey and the winery that made this episode’s beverage was featured back in January. On this show we will be trying the Cooper and Thief Tequila Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc. This Sauvignon blanc, which also has some other white wines that comprise 22% of the blend, is aged for three months in Casa Noble anejo tequila barrels. Barrel aged anything intrigues us, and this will definitely be a new experience. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila

This episode is going to feature a type of beverage we like but do not have very often on our show. What makes this particular beverage special and intriguing to us is that it spends a good amount of time in oak whiskey barrels. I guess at this time it would be good to point out that it is not a whiskey. Without further adieu, we present to you the beverage for this episode, the Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila. We mentioned before that it is aged in oak whiskey barrels, but wait, there’s more! It also spends an additional two months in specially toasted barrels for extra complexity. All of this talk of oak barrels and toasty goodness has made us thirsty, so let the sipping begin! What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Lovely Rita Tequila Mixed Drink

Tequila can be an amazing spirit on it's own, but when paired with a few of its flavorful friends is when the magic truly happens.  The mix drink we have at the tasting table today was created out of necessity and curiosity.  During one of our family get-togethers Keith was craving the refreshment of a gin and tonic.  In a rare turn of events my other brother, Joe, was out of gin.  I immediately posed the question, "What do you have?"  After a bit of looking at the different options we decided that a blanco tequila would be a unique and possibly tasty substitution.  The rest of the drink remained the same, but with the exchange of tequila for gin, the "Lovely Rita" was created.  Watch the show and mix one up for yourself.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Sauza Tres Generaciones Plata Tequila

We figured it was about time for us to take a break from the many beers we have been having lately and cleanse our palates with one of our favorite spirits, tequila.  The Tres Generaciones Plata from Sauza Tequila came my way as a gift from my Dad at one of our get-togethers.  It's a blanco or white tequila which means it's bottled immediately after distillation or aged less than two months in stainless steel barrels.  Late in the recording of the show we decided to not only try it straight, but also make a margarita since that's just what needs to be done if you have a blanco tequila.  During that second tasting we get a chance to talk about our upcoming full length podcast all about kombucha tea.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

    Holiday Beverage Fest

    Season's Greetings!

Well, here we are smack dab in the throws of another holiday season.   This time can be hectic as there is always somewhere to be and something to do, but it is also a time to be with family and friends.  A time to share old memories and traditions, and to think about all the possibilities that the future holds.  During this season, we at AboutBeverages.com are also thinking of what beverage our hands might be holding.  We all have our favorites, from hot cocoa to egg nog, cider to a seasonal beer, or perhaps a special cocktail or bottle of bubbly.  In the coming days, we are going to share some of our favorites with you, but more importantly, we want you to share your seasonal favorites with us!  Let us know what your favorite beverage is during the holiday season, no matter what it is.  If there is a story or history behind it, we would love to read about that as well.  So whether it's naughty or nice, let's start a list of liquid holiday cheer that we can check twice, or thrice, even.  Add a comment to this blog post and we will begin to give the gift of refreshment.  If it is a mixed drink or something that needs preparation, remember to share the recipe, as long as it is not a secret.

We look forward to hearing from you!  Happy Holidays!!

Nectar of the Mayan Gods.... I'm talking about tequila of course!

An interesting article that adds an additional footnote to our episode 3 and 4 podcasts.  It contains some more sipping tequila information along with an interesting legend about where the first blue agave plant grew.  You should take notice that one of the people in the legend shares a name with a mixed beverage we enjoyed in episode 4.  Click the link for more info.
