Pumpkin Beers 2015 - Wasatch, Almanac and We Choose This Year's Champion

We hope you are ready for some more pumpkin, because this week brings part two of our world famous (famous in our world, and that's what really matters to us at About Beverages) pumpkin beer podcast.  Last weeks episode saw us make our way through the first four selections for this year, and this week we will complete our quest to crown the newest pumpkin beer winner and champion. This weeks podcast features the Black O' Lantern pumpkin stout from Wasatch and Almanac's Heirloom Pumpkin barleywine-style ale.  We will also have a re-cap of all six of the beers we tried and we will pick our favorite for this year. We were really happy with the variety of beers we brought to the table this year because we felt that they covered a very broad spectrum of flavor profiles.

We will reveal our favorite, but which pumpkin beer is your go-to at this time of the year? What should we try next year or try to get this year before it disappears? Please send us an e-mail, leave a comment, or hit us up on Twitter with your thoughts and suggestions.

Pumpkin Beers 2015 - Saranac, Alaskan, Jolly Pumpkin and Ballast Point

Well, it is that time of year again. There is talk of leaves changing color, cooler weather is on the way, football games with meaning are finally being played, and the About Beverages Pumpkin Beer Podcast is here for your enjoyment. It is hard to believe, but this is the 6th year we have had a podcast devoted solely to pumpkin beer. We always enjoy trying and discussing beverages of all kinds with you, but one of us enjoys this particular podcast a little more than the other. You may already know who that is, but if you don’t, it won’t take you long to figure it out. That being said, we have a good time doing this seasonally themed podcast every year.

This year, we have six new-to-us pumpkin beers that we will be trying. Since we are trying a cornucopia of beers this year, all made with pumpkin, we decided to split this into two podcasts. This week’s episode will cover the first four, while next weeks will be the remaining two plus discussion and the big reveal of this year’s winner. This year we did something a little different and decided not to bring back any of our champions from years past. This leaves one to wonder, “What has become of the previous year’s winners?” The choice we made was to officially “retire” the Punkin Ale from Dogfish (Champion in 2010 and 2011, runner-up 2012), and the Smashed Pumpkin from Shipyard (Champion 2012, 2013, and 2014). They have become the inaugural members of our “Pumpkin Beer Hall of Fame.” If they were sports jerseys, they would hang from the rafters in the tasting room for all to see. As great as they are, we have decided to give six new beers a shot at our coveted pumpkin beer crown.

The beers we will be trying this week are the Saranac Pumpkin Ale, Alaskan Pumpkin Ale, Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela No. 1 Pumpkin Ale, and Ballast Point Pumpkin Down Scotch Ale.  We invite you to listen or watch as we begin this journey to what we hope will be a new and delicious champion.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Four Pack of Pumpkin Beers 2011

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Back by popular demand it's another four pack of pumpkin beers.  In the same spirit of what we did last year for this podcast (which can be found here) we are bringing three new pumpkin beers to the tasting table along with the returning champion.  The challengers this year include the following:  Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale, Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat, and Uinta Punk'n.  Last years much loved favorite the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale is back to see if it can be victorious two years in a row.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Four Pack of Pumpkin Beers

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" please don't hesitate to contact us.  If you want to bend our ear you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com  or have a seat at The Round Table and start a discussion in our forums.  Halloween is almost here and in honor of that we will be trying pumpkin beers from four breweries:  Lakefront, Wasatch, Dogfish Head, and Shipyard.  The first three beers are new to AboutBeverages.com, but the fourth from Shipyard is the one that we actually enjoyed last year.  We thought it might be interesting to see how it stacked up against the others.  Will it still remain the only pumpkin beer we would purchase again or will one of the others dethrone the champion?  Find out.
