AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Samuel Adams Griffin's Bow Barleywine

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  As much as I give Keith a hard time about his lack of enthusiasm towards barleywines, I sure do get him to try an awful lot of them.  In fact the Samuel Adams Griffin's Bow we are trying today is one that he brought over.  I'm sure it was because this one is a little different since it is characterized as an oaked blonde barleywine.  It's also possible that he's just a glutton for punishment.  If anyone picked up a bottle based on my post for Sunday and is trying it while listening to the podcast, let us know in the comments section what you think.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Kona Brewing Koko Brown (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  In honor of Valentine's Day we have a Winter/Spring seasonal from Kona Brewing.  Their Koko Brown is a nut brown ale, brewed with toasted coconut.  Sound interesting?  We thought so.  What made it even better is that we were given this beer by a listener of the show, Marilyn, who also happens to be a co-worker of Keith.  Which means we have nothing to lose.  Except on the off chance we don't like it and then in the interest of truth and honesty, we have to disclose that to her and the rest of our listening audience.  Let's hope that doesn't happen.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Episode 24 - Four Gins from Distillery No. 209, Rogue, Nolet's, & Hendrick's

Welcome to episode 24 of the AboutBeverages.com podcast!  In this episode we will be tasting something very close to our hearts; gin.  We think we proved with our previous podcast and the follow up "Give It A Shot" (which can be found here and here) that the gins we tried (and many of the new wave of "boutique" gins) are definitely NOT your grandfather's gin.  They have a wonderfully mesmerizing balance of flavors and delicate nuances not found in other spirits.  That being said, we have another batch of gins to try today that we hope will take us up another notch in our appreciation of this amazing libation.  Since our last gin podcast, we have found another friend of the show who appears to love gin even more than we do!  This is evidenced by the fact that he happily provided three of the four gins we will be trying on this podcast.  His name is Eric (not Eric Greene, but this Eric's last name also begins with G) and he and Keith work together  We will be tasting three new gins along with our favorite from the previous round, Hendrick's distilled in Scotland.  The new power trio of gins that Eric brought with him to the tasting room are:  209 from Distillery No. 209 in Napa, Spruce from Rogue Spirits in Oregon, and Nolet's Silver from the Nolet Distillery in Holland.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Rogue Brewing Dead Guy Ale (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  I'm as shocked as you are that this podcast turned into a video.  I mean, I knew we were recording it, but I didn't think it would come together as well as it did.  In fact it also gave me the opprotunity to try out our new editing software.  I'm still getting the hang of it, but I think with each video we do, it's only going to get better.  I guess before I ramble anymore I should mention that the beverage being tasted today is the Dead Guy Ale from Rogue Brewing.  Originally created to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead, this German style Maibock comes in at an ABV of 6.5% and has been around since the early 1990s.  How it hadn't found its way to our tasting table until now is just crazy, but today we make things right.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Samuel Adams Alpine Spring

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Samuel Adams Alpine Spring is, you guessed it, a Spring seasonal.  It's an unfiltered lager looking to bridge the gap between Winter and Summer.  Although to our thinking he's going from a lighter lager in the Spring to a heavier ale in the Summer.  Shouldn't that be reversed?  We're probably over analysing that I suppose.  This has become a much larger market over the last few years with breweries looking for new seasons to make special beers for.  In fact it's almost like they've turned the year into micro seasons.  We no longer simply have four, but more like eight or even twelve depending on the brewery.  Whatever the reason, new beer options are always a good thing.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Saranac Imperial IPA

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  The Saranac Imperial IPA is one of only two beers in their High Peak Series.  These beers are touted as being "bigger, more complex and flavorful."  They are difficult if not impossible to find here in Arizona.  So when a couple of loyal listeners (Jason & Heidi) agreed to smuggle some back with them from their trip to the Far East (North Carolina) we were excited.  Will we be rewarded with good flavor?  We and our special guest (Eric) will decide.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Crispin The Saint Natural Hard Cider

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Hard ciders are not something I usually look for when at my local beverage store making a purchase.  There's nothing wrong with them, we've tried several on previous podcasts.  So when Keith mentioned to me he had a cider recommended to him by a friend, I was less than enthusiastic.  What I discovered later that got my attention was this cider is fermented with Belgian Trappist beer yeasts.  The Saint Natural Hard Cider is part of Crispin Cider Co. Artisanal Reserve line.  No matter the outcome of our tasting, we would be very intrigued to try some of the other unique ciders in this line, particularly the Lansdowne Hard Cider made with Irish Ale yeast and organic molasses.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Rogue Brewing Voodoo Doughnut (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  If we said bacon maple donut, what would be the first thing that comes to your mind?  If you said, "One of the latest seasonals from Rogue Brewing" than you obviously read the title of this post and cannot be trusted to play guessing games.  No matter.  Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale is what we are trying today on the podcast and in the video.  We know this beer may sound like just another strange gimmick, but just watch and find out.  You'll notice the tasting room is a little barren at the moment, but soon it will be filled with assorted memorabilia and all things beverages.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Paddleford Creek Bourbon (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Bourbon is the beverage of choice for the podcast today and what better way to celebrate our love for the oak aged libation than with our first video!  We were intially going to make the podcast on Thursday be our first video feature, but we couldn't wait.  Paddleford Creek is a small batch borbon that is quite difficult to find any information about.  Seriously.  I have been doing research for days.  Other than the info on the bottle (charcoal filtered, 83 proof, etc.) everything else is shrouded in mystery.  Best guess I have seen is that it's made by Phillips Distilling Company from Wisconsin.  That could be good or bad.  One thing this Bears fan knows for sure is that a lot of this whiskey is being sold to drown the sorrows of many a Packer fan today.  An audio only version of the podcast is still available for download.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Bruery, Elysian, Stone Collaboration Beer La Citrueille Celeste de Citracado

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  I think George Thorogood said it best, "One brewmaster ain't enough jack you better make it three."  Of course I'm paraphrasing, but who cares when it comes to the latest collaboration beer involving The Bruery, Elysian, and Stone Brewing.  The beer, called La Citrueille Celeste de Citracado, is an ale made with pumpkin, yams, toasted fenugreek, lemon verbena, and birch bark.  Sounds crazy and exciting all at the same time.  That's why we love trying these unique experiments.  Let us know if you have had it and what you think in the comments.
