Give It A Shot - Pizza Port Brewing Party Shirt Pale Ale

Who doesn’t love a party? Especially at this time of year there is no shortage of available opportunities and occasions for which one can be thrown. Although they can be logistically challenging and fiscally overwhelming, one need not go all out to have a celebration. It only need be a quiet night with that special someone (even if that someone is you). As for the occasion? How about just because. Because it’s today. Because you feel like it. Because you are alive. Because we had another one of those amazing Arizona sunsets. There are lots of reasons to embrace the party that is today. If by chance you need some liquid refreshment for that celebration, we have something that might help you out. At the very least, the can will help to put one in a party kind of mood. This week we will be trying the Party Shirt Pale ale from Pizza Port Brewing. The brewery is celebrating this as a crisp, hop forward pale ale showcasing a variety of fruit notes. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Petrus Aged Pale

You probably are aware by now that we are pretty big fans of beer. One of our favorite styles of beer and one that has grown enormously in popularity over the past 4-5 years is the Sour style. There are many different types of sour beers ranging from Berliner Weisse and gose on the lighter side on up to Flemish Red and geuze on the heavier side. Some even incorporate a bit of funk for an even wilder ride for your palate. For this podcast we are featuring a sour beer made by Brewery de Brabandere in Belgium exclusively for Trader Joe’s. It is called the Petrus Aged Pale and it is a limited single foeder release, foeder #102, to be precise.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Modern Times Beer Oneida Seasonal Pale Ale

Modern Times Beer has become another one of our "must have breweries" whenever Keith or I travel to California with our families.  From the light to the dark they have found a wonderful balance of flavor in all that they create.  Today at the tasting table we have the Oneida Seasonal Pale Ale.  Using three hops, Hallertau Blanc, Cascade and the experimental 05256, this sessionable beer is looking to pack quite a fruity punch from just 50 IBUs.  Time to taste and see if just like San Diego this beer is made to "..always go down smooth."  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Give It A Shot - Boulder Beer Company Hoopla Pale Ale

For some reason when we choose to talk about some of our favorite breweries, Boulder Beer never seems to get mentioned.  That needs to change.  From the Mojo IPA and it's big brother the Mojo Risin' Double IPA to the Hazed and Infused and Honey of a Saison, we always come away with a smile on our face and a happy palate when having one of their beers.  It's with great anticipation at the tasting table today that we have the Hoopla Pale Ale Seasonal.  This beer is a collaboration of sorts not between two breweries, but between the brewmasters at Boulder Beer and Kyle Hollingsworth.  Kyle is not only an avid homebrewer, but also a keyboardist for The String Cheese Incident.  Their goal was to create a beer perfect for festivals.  To do so they called upon a trio of hops (Centennial, Glacier, Nugget) to add their voice to this 5.7% ABV pale ale.  Like all great trios, eventually one will stand out as the star.  So just like Diana Ross, Glacier was chosen as the one to be used for dry hopping and be the headliner of the show.  Time to taste and find out if this beer is truly in harmony or is about to get broken up by stardom.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Give It A Shot - Unity Vibration Kombucha Pale Ale

We have had numerous collaborations on this show throughout the years, most of them being from different breweries getting together to create a limited release.  Today on the show we have a beer that is only from one brewery, but brings together so many different ideas it feels like a collaboration.  At the tasting table thanks to our special guest Eric, we have the Unity Vibration Kombucha Pale Ale.  It's quite a list of all the different things we have in play today:  Double hopping, barrel aged, juniper and kombucha.  For those of you not familiar with kombucha, the cliff notes version is it's a sweetened beverage produced by fermenting black tea with a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY).  We will get into that and many other things more in depth during the show.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Second Shot - Odell Brewing St. Lupulin Extra Pale Ale

We are not above admitting a mistake if one has been made.  You never know when you first try a beverage if there was something wrong with either the drink itself or maybe the circumstances under which it was had.  Whatever the case, it is always good to go back and try things again and that is what we are doing today.  The St. Lupulin from Odell Brewing was a beer we tried almost two years ago at the recommendation of one of our listeners and contributors to the site, Eric Greene.  At the time we were not fans of what we thought was a rather bland seasonal offering.  Time has now past and at the behest of several listeners we are going to "Give It A Second Shot" and see if this ode to the resin found within the hop will change our minds.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Oskar Blues Brewery Dale's Pale Ale & Old Chub Scotch Ale

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  The final day of our most recent beer in a can series is upon us and it involves a brewery that is no stranger to cans.  In fact all of their beers come in cans.  Oskar Blues Brewery out of Lyons, Colorado has been packaging their beer this way since 2002.  Today in the tasting room we have two of them, Dale's Pale Ale and the Old Chub Scotch Ale.  The styles of these beers are very different so it's not about comparing the two, it's more about finding beers in general that seem to work well in a can.  We have tried two of their other beers in the past as well which you can find here and here.
