Give It A Shot - Erath Oregon Pinot Noir 2016

We know that while we are truly about all types of beverages, we do tend to skew more often toward beer. It is easy to buy just one for us to talk about on a podcast and with few exceptions, the price structure is usually just what we are looking for. However, this week our fancies take a turn for the grape at About Beverages. This podcast (and the one which follows it) came about as we tried to decide what the menu would be for our Thursday night livestream session. We won’t bore you with the details, but the end result was that we would try wines this week. We settled on the Pinot Noir varietal and decided to compare and contrast the Oregon and California styles. We decided to start with the selection from Oregon and the one we chose was the Erath Pinot Noir. This is the 2016 vintage and usually runs right about $15 or $16. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Episode 26 - Cascade Brewing 3-Pack of Sour Beers (Apricot, The Vine and Kriek)

Welcome to Episode 26 of the AboutBeverages.com podcast!  After much deliberation we decided to start the year on a sour note and with a full length show to boot.  Yes once again we are going to let our love for this style shine through as we taste a trifecta of sour ales from Cascade Brewing.  Located in Portland, Oregon the brewery was started in 1998 by Art Larrance with the help of Brewmaster Ron Gansberg.  After growing the business for a few years they decided the best way to stand out from the multitude of other breweries in the area was to create an intense sensory experience.  Not wanting to get involved in the "hops arms race" they decided to look around the area and see what else they could draw upon.  With the abundance of local fruit and supply of wine barrels in the region they took to making their first base beer in 2006, that would then be used to create their first sour beers.  Fast forward to present day and that big idea with modest beginnings brings us to our tasting table.  On the show we will be tasting Apricot, The Vine and Kriek sour ales.  Helping us with all this discussion and providing the beer will be a returning guest to the show, Eric, who you will remember from our previous sour beer podcast.  Let us know what you think of this style and what your favorites are by emailing us at AboutBeverages@q.com.
