Give It A Shot - Jefferson’s Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finished Bourbon

Welcome to part two of this Cabernet theme week here at About Beverages. What a wonderful meaningful coincidence it was to find that we had a new Cabernet to try for our previous podcast and that it had a connection to another beverage that we wanted to share with our viewers, listeners and friends. This particular item was given to Andrew by some good friends who also happen to be regular watchers of our live-streams on twitch.tv/aboutbeverages on Thursday nights. The beverage we are trying for this episode is the Jefferson’s Reserve Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finished Bourbon. We have actually tried this before, but it was a couple of years ago and not for a podcast. This was also a particularly exciting podcast for us because we are going to be trying this bourbon in Andrew’s new Norlan whisky glasses. They have a really cool design which we are hoping will take our spirits enjoyment to another level. 11, perhaps? Join us as we find out! What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Burly Gentlemen Whiskey Mixed Drink

The Burly Gentlemen.  These two words when put together simply cry out to be the name of a mixed drink.  Not just any mixed drink mind you.  A blended concoction that is sweet, smooth and delicious while also giving you a stern smoky kick that lets you know it's business time!  Now that you're done laughing after watching the Flight of the Conchords video we linked to, we can begin to talk about what comprises the drink.  Bourbon (Jefferson's), Scotch (Laphroaig Triple Wood), Agave nectar and Regan's Orange Bitters No. 6.  While it has some things in common with a traditional Manhattan, the addition of scotch adds a little smoke and the gave nectar adds a touch of extra sweetness.  Mix one up with us and taste along as we explore this new cocktail together.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Jefferson's Small Batch Bourbon (Video)

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  When we're not tasting beer apparently we seem to have a soft spot for bourbon and that's exactly what we'll be trying today.  Jefferson's small batch bourbon is distilled by McLain and Kyne using limestone water from Kentucky.  What does "Very Small Batch Bourbon" actually mean?  Well instead of selecting 200-300 barrels of whiskey to be blended together for small batch bourbon, they only use 8-12 barrels of varying ages to ensure consistency.  Let's see if that pays off in the flavor.
