Give It A Shot - Tombstone Brewing Dank Fruit Double IPA

Even though we are two months past (or ten months before) November, as you will see, we have a lot to be thankful for this week. Or should we say “dankful” for this week. We hope you will excuse the horrible pun, but it was right there, a piece of low-hanging literary fruit, just waiting to be plucked. We went out on a limb with these somewhat vague references to give you a clue or two about what we will be trying on this second podcast of the week. We do have a theme going here, but for this podcast we have gotten a little closer to home with something we can consider to be “local” The beverage we will be trying on this episode is the Dank Fruit Double IPA from Tombstone Brewing Company. Their website states that it is their hoppiest beer to date and the can uses the word “crushable.” What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - La Cumbre Brewing Project Dank Winter Edition Double IPA

It has been too long since we last came to you via podcast or video and we are glad to say that we are back! We hope that you all have had a great season of celebrating and that your New Year is off to a healthy and happy start. We have had quite a busy time this past few months and while we have not been releasing videos on a regular basis, we have still been recording, as well as streaming live most Thursday evenings via Twitch. For our first release of the New Year we are traveling to a state with which we share a border. Before you guess California we say to you, “not so fast, my friend.” For this particular beverage we are heading to the state that borders us to the east, New Mexico, and to a brewery we are familiar with, yet have not featured on a podcast. The beverage we will be featuring on this podcast is the Project Dank from La Cumbre. According to their website, La Cumbre states that Project Dank is an “ever changing expression of their hoppiest endeavors.” This beer was recommended to us by Scott at Tap and Bottle, so we knew we were off to a good start.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Dragoon Brewing No School Double IPA

This week we are going to try something new from one of our favorite local brewing establishments. This particular brewery first had the distinction of being featured on one of our podcasts shortly after they opened back in 2012. Even though up until now that has been their only appearance on a podcast, over the past 6 years we have enjoyed numerous pints and growlers of their beers. From their flagship IPA, to the release of their first sour beer last year, Dragoon Brewing Company can always be counted on for something fresh and delicious. For this podcast we are trying the No School IIPA, which is their take on a classic American Double IPA.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Stone Brewing 22nd Anniversary Anni-Matter Double IPA

Anniversaries can truly be special events. A moment in time to stop and contemplate the way things were, the way things are, and the way things could be someday. Certainly there are many types of anniversaries with sad connotations, but we are not here today to reflect on those. We are here to talk about Stone Brewing and revel in the fact that they are celebrating 22 years of providing us with innovative and delicious tasting beers. From pilsners, to IPA’s, to imperial stouts, they have it all covered. They celebrate their anniversary every year by releasing a beer made specifically for the occasion and that is what we are trying for this podcast. The beer is named Anni-Matter Double IPA, and they are saying it is a haze-free, bold, juicy double IPA.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Stone Brewing I'm Peach Double IPA

This podcast features a subject whose time has come. In fact it is long overdue, with many people in this country and around the world saying “it’s about time” or “what took you so long?”. We are talking, of course, about the latest release from Stone Brewing, the I’m Peach Double IPA. The people at Stone have always shown a deft and creative hand when crafting a beer and this time around they have taken on the challenge of adding peach to a double IPA.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Stone Brewing Enjoy By 2.14.14 Cellared (Unnecessarily)

This is the most forward planning of any show by far that we have ever done!  Today at the tasting table we have the Stone Brewing Enjoy By 2.14.14.  That's right.  I (Andrew) have been cellaring (unnecessarily) this beer for one year.  I had bought several of these when they first came out as I tend to do with the Enjoy By series because they are delicious.  A day or two had passed after Valentine's Day last year when I noticed that I still had one more.  Obviously it still would have been perfectly amazing, but that was when like a thunderbolt of genius/stupidity I had an idea.  Keith and I have often discussed that as double IPAs get older due to the higher hops and malt content they have some flavors in common with a barley wine.  The question then became, "What would happen if we actually cellared a double IPA for an extended period of time?"  The answer comes today at the tasting table in a balance of obvious and surprising.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Give It A Shot - Alaskan Brewing Hopothermia Double IPA

We go bigger this week (we know we hate that cliche too) thanks to a beer from Alaskan Brewing at the tasting table.  The Hopothermia Double IPA is their latest year round release.  What makes something a double IPA you might ask?  If you go by BJCP guidelines, cause why not, the two most important things are the IBUs (international bittering unit) and the ABV (alcohol by volume).  The Hopothermia is on the low end of the IBUs, 70, for this style and almost exactly in the middle at 8.5% ABV.  The quintet of hops used to create the bitterness should be familiar to most:  Nugget, Apollo, Amarillo, Citra and Centennial.  Time now to taste and discover if this beer is a welcome option throughout the year or has simply left us out in the cold.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Give It A Shot - Rough Draft Hop Therapy Double IPA

Today we have not only a new beer at the tasting table, but also a new brewery to go along with it.  We decided to double down on our IPA quotient and try the Hop Therapy Double IPA from Rough Draft Brewing.  We normally don't do this, but to give you an idea of what we will be trying here today, here is the entirety of what they have to say about this beer on their site...  "A Galaxy and Summer hop bomb".  At 9% ABV and 94 IBUs we'd say that sounds like an accurate description.  Time to taste and truly see how explosive it is.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.
