Give It A Shot - Deschutes Brewery Only Slightly Exaggerated IPA

It isn’t often that I have the opportunity to write these posts while traveling, but as I begin to let the words flow that will ultimately create this particular post, I realize that this is now the second entry created outside of my home state. The last one (for Gentle Reminder IPA) was written while on vacation in Playa del Carmen. This one is being crafted as I wait for my flight in the Burbank Airport. This trip was a quick one, and on the surface, it was a business trip for Trader Joe’s. If you dig a little deeper, which we at About Beverages usually do, you would realize that there was also fun involved as well. New people to meet, new beverages to be tried, and new experiences to learn from. Speaking of Trader Joe’s, this episode’s featured beverage was purchased there. Although it is not exclusively available there, as happens frequently, it was one of the new items available when I arrived for work last week. The beverage we will be trying this week is a new seasonal offering from Deschutes Brewery, the Only Slightly Exaggerated IPA. This beer was brewed in conjunction with Travel Oregon’s “Only Slightly Exaggerated” tourism advertising campaign using the Sabro hop, which is grown in the Northwest. FYI, when we recorded our podcast, we didn’t notice the word “only” in the title. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Deschutes Brewery Jubelale 2013

The Jubelale from Deschutes Brewery is a seasonal we look forward to every year.  The flavor profile always changes a bit and the artwork for the label is unique to each year.  It's a strong ale with a blended six-pack of hops:  Nugget, Cascade, Willamette, Styrian, Tettnang, East Kent Goldings.  This is one that we don't always get to try on a show, but do purchase for holiday enjoyment.  Funny thing was that when we looked back at the history of tasting this beer we noticed that we only seem to do something website related in odd years.  We have reviews from 2009, 2011 and now fittingly in 2013.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Give It A Shot - Deschutes Brewery Fresh Squeezed IPA

One of the more recent trends in the area of IPAs is the fresh hopped IPA.  Whether it's Stone Brewing and their Enjoy By IPA or Port Brewing and their High Tide IPA, it's all about getting the beer to you as fast as possible to keep all of the delicious hop oils at their peak of goodness.  You should always look at bottling dates or best before dates when it comes to beer, but it is even more essential when it comes to IPAs.  They are not meant to age, but are to be enjoyed immediately.  The Fresh Squeezed IPA from Deschutes Brewery is no exception.  Time to taste and hope we haven't waited too long.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Deschutes Brewery Jubelale

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  The Jubelale from Deschutes Brewery is another one of those seasonal beers that we look forward to.  While it does not change by leaps and bounds like some of the other seasonal beers we have had lately, it does change just enough to be interesting.  This year it's characterized as a strong ale.  The other thing that changes besides the beer itself is the label, which is done by a different artist every year.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Deschutes Jubelale

    Greetings and Salutations!

Let's face it; the odds are overwhelming.  There are only two of us, and even with you, our wonderful beverage community on our side, there are still so many drinks we want to mix, bottles we want to uncork, beans we want to grind, leaves we want to steep-well you get the picture-that we have been searching for a way to try and to talk about more quaffables from the beverage world.  Well, we think that we may have the solution.

We have created a new segment called "Give It A Shot" where we will do just that.  In our journeys, we frequently discover things that we want to try and then share with you.  In the past, we have then tried to build an entire show around these discoveries, but depending on the item, that is not always an easy thing to do.  There are some things that need to be shared immediately and/or by themselves.  That is what "Give It A Shot" is all about.  We are going to try them soon after we find them, share them with you, and let you know whether we think you should try this beverage and "Give It A Shot."  We hope that this will allow us to discover and share even more of the beverage world and we know that it will be yet another entertaining and informative addition to our blogcast.

As always, we would love to hear from you!  Let us know about something that you have had recently and we will be happy to try your suggestion.  So without further ado the first episode of "Give It A Shot" featuring the Deschutes Brewery Seasonal, Jubelale.
