Give It A Shot - Kisses Betwixt Collaboration Beer from The Bruery Terreux & Dogfish Head

It is rare that both of us aren’t feeling well on a Thursday night that we are planning on live-streaming and recording podcasts, but that is exactly the scenario we encountered last week. The end result of something like that happening is that it just makes us hungrier (or thirstier) when we come back the next week. This episode marks the beginning of that week and we have something to try that has all the makings of being a real treat. Recently, Andrew, his wife, and two friends of the show (let’s call them H & J) were fortunate enough to attend an event and Tap and Bottle’s downtown location. It was a tasting featuring several items from The Bruery and what we will be trying is one of the items that Andrew bought while he was there. For today’s show we will feature the Kisses Betwixt which is a collaboration beer from The Bruery Terreux and Dogfish Head. It is blend of two beers, the Mr. This is Ridiculous and the Mrs. This is Ridiculous. Andrew was able to try the two beers that make up this blend separately, but true to his values, he has not yet tried the blend. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Anchorage / Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Boreal Saison

Collaborations can go either way.  Peanut butter and chocolate?  Great collaboration!  Puff Daddy and Jimmy Page?  Terrible collaboration for an even more terrible movie!  Two brothers tasting beverages and sharing good times?  Totally fantastic!  A farmhouse saison created by two well respected breweries?  That question will be answered today at the tasting table.  Anchorage and Jolly Pumpkin Brewing bring us a unique collaboration called the Calabaza Boreal.  The unique part of this brew is not that Gabe of Anchorage and Ron of Jolly Pumpkin created a beer together, but that they each brewed a batch at their own facility to give their personal spin on the same recipe.  As you can see from the video we are trying the Anchorage version which uses a different primary yeast and some of Jolly Pumpkin's own Oro de Calabaza right from the barrel.  Time to taste and see if we are glad these to were able to come together or if they should have gone their separate ways.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Saison du Buff Aged In Red Wine Barrels

The Saison du Buff collaboration was first brewed by Stone, Dogfish and Victory Brewing in 2010.  This was the first and I think only beer to come out of their BUFF (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) alliance.  It was brewed at all three breweries using the same recipe and ingredients throughout that year.  Fast forward to 2012 and the power trio is at it again making another round of that original saison which featured parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.  For our tasting today we have taken it to even another level.  We will be sampling the Stone version of the Saison du Buff which they chose to age in red wine barrels as part of their Quingenti Millilitre series.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Bear Republic, Fat Head's, Stone Collaboration Beer Texas Brown Ale

These many collaboration beers have been at the very least interesting and sometimes quite delicious.  Today on the show we have the latest of these ventures featuring Bear Republic, Fat Head's, and of course Stone Brewing.  Their creation is a very unique TBA (Texas Brown Ale) with the addition of some brown sugar, molasses, and cascade hops.  This beer marks the first time in over 15 years that Stone has used cascade hops.  Will this be the last?  If you read their blog the answer is probably no, but it doesn't sound like they are making any big changes to their hop choices anytime soon.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Ninkasi, The Alchemist, Stone Collaboration Beer More Brown Than Black IPA

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Another day, another dollar, and another collaboration brew from Stone Brewing and friends.  More Brown Than Black IPA is from the collective brain trust of Ninkasi, The Alchemist, and Stone.  The idea was to create a beer that was still very hop forward, but not quite as roasty and dark as a black IPA.  The other part to this collective story is that The Alchemist Brewery is in Waterbury, Vermont and was hit quite hard last year by hurricane Irene.  To help out the surrounding area proceeds from the sale of this beer will go to help out families affected by the hurricane.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Bruery, Elysian, Stone Collaboration Beer La Citrueille Celeste de Citracado

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  I think George Thorogood said it best, "One brewmaster ain't enough jack you better make it three."  Of course I'm paraphrasing, but who cares when it comes to the latest collaboration beer involving The Bruery, Elysian, and Stone Brewing.  The beer, called La Citrueille Celeste de Citracado, is an ale made with pumpkin, yams, toasted fenugreek, lemon verbena, and birch bark.  Sounds crazy and exciting all at the same time.  That's why we love trying these unique experiments.  Let us know if you have had it and what you think in the comments.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Collaboration Beer Coffee Black IPA

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Coffee in a Black IPA?  Can it be done?  Should it be done?  We'll find out the answer to those questions and more as we try a collaborative home brew on the podcast today.  The Coffee Black IPA as created by AboutBeverages.com and Eric Greene Brewmaster at Dragoon Brewing, has been a long time in the making.  The project was started several months back with the desire to make a Black IPA with some of the more nuanced notes of a good cup of coffee.  Arbuckle Coffee to be specific.  Let's find out if we succeeded.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Collaboration Home Brew Part 1

In a continuing effort to educate ourselves about not only what's new in the beverage world, but also how things are created, we have decided to brew a completely new beer.  The itch to take on such a project probably started when we first did our Mr. Beer Home Brew Series podcasts which you can find in the archives here at this link.  Not only were those initial brewing experiences well received by our audience, but also by us, so we decided to take that even further.  Thankfully our friend and Brew Master, Eric from Mr. Beer, is going to help us through this journey.

This first podcast will mostly be discussion about what types of beer we not only like, but would also like to improve upon since we are doing it ourselves.  We will go over some of the processes that will be different from what we have done in the past and decide how far we want to raise the bar for our new Collaboration Home Brew.  Also we will be discussing another element that we will be bringing to our new beer, the addition of some coffee and or tea.  How will this all come together?  Listen to part one and find out.
