Give It A Shot - Lagunitas Brewing The Waldos' Special Ale

In the spirit of sharing, which is what we are all about at About Beverages, we want you to know that our unintended run of episodes featuring beverages or beverage categories that we have never tried before ends with this show. It had to end sooner or later, and at least what we will be featuring on this show is something we have enjoyed in the past. A trusted extremely limited-release from an experienced brewery which we hope will be worthy of being known as the beverage that ended that brief, unintended run. For this podcast, we will be trying The Waldos’ Special Ale from Lagunitas Brewing. For the past several years, Lagunitas has released this beer around April 20th, in honor of the origins of 420. They say it is the dankest and hoppiest beer they have ever brewed and comes in at 11.7% ABV. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Prescott Brewing Lodgepole Light Cream Ale

Due to a cinematic “once in a lifetime” event, we had to take last week off from providing you with exciting and informative beverage related content but we are back and raring to go. We were discussing what to do this week for our shows and with a snap of our fingers we came up with an idea. We made half of our choices disappear with that snap, but at least we didn’t have quite as many things to choose from. Picking up right where we last left off, we will continue our theme of trying sub-categories of beverages that we have never before tried on our podcasts. We will be trying a beer, but one that falls into a category that we are relatively unfamiliar with. The beer we are trying for this episode is the Lodgepole Light Cream Ale from Prescott Brewing Company. Cream ale is described as “clean, easily drinkable and refreshing” by the BJCP and “mild and light bodied with no hop aroma and very little hop flavor” by Prescott Brewing’s website. At least we have been forewarned… What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Echigo Beer Flying IPA

With this episode, we officially make it a week of firsts here at About Beverages as we again try something from a category we have never before tried on our show. We also continue our trend of unintended theme weeks as both of this weeks selections come to us from the other side of the Pacific Ocean. We have tried a lot of beer on our show, but we have never before tried an IPA from Japan. Recently, Andrew was at a local international supermarket and found himself in the beer section, where he made this selection. On this episode we will be trying the Echigo Beer Flying IPA. Featuring Citra hops and an ABV of 5.5%, this beer comes from a brewery located in Niigata Prefecture. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Lagunitas One Hitter Series Secret Agenda Pale Bock Beer

One of the best things that can happen for us at About Beverages is when a plan comes together, especially when that plan wasn’t even actually planned. That is what happened this week as we suddenly realized we had stumbled into a theme. And not just any theme, a timely and relevant theme at that. This week we will celebrate baseball. With the season barely into its third week as we recorded we decided to commemorate the (almost) brand new season. A timely delivery of beer to the Trader Joe’s where Keith works was a key first step in the development of this theme. That beer will be the first thing we try this week. The beverage we are trying on this episode is the Secret Agenda from Lagunitas. It is the latest edition of their One Hitter series and was made in conjunction with Moonlight Brewing out of Santa Rosa California. The style is Pale Bock and they say it is the perfect beer for the spring season. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Modern Times Beer Dreamspeaker IPA

It is always a good thing to try something new. Take a step outside the comfort zone. Expand one’s horizons. Explore uncharted territory. For this particular show we will be doing none of those things. We will be re-visiting one of our favorite breweries and trying a style of beer we are very familiar with which is made with hops we have most certainly tried before. We guess it should be noted that we have never had this exact beer and the unique combination of malt and hops contained therein. The last few sentences might make it seem like we were not excited to try this beer, but that assumption would be incorrect. The beverage we will be trying on this podcast is the Dreamspeaker IPA from Modern Times. It is their monthly release for March and April and also features some cool, if not visually disorienting, graphics. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Hop Valley Brewing Cryo Stash Imperial IPA

Time sure goes by quickly when you are doing something you love. We know that’s true because this week in which we released three podcasts has sure flown by! To put that in an even larger scope, we can’t believe how quickly ten years has flown by. Why do we even mention that you may ask? Well, believe it or not, About Beverages has been around for over 10 years now and next month we will celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the release of our very first podcast. More information on that will follow in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. For now though, let’s get back to this week. This podcast is the third and final release for the week and we will be traveling to Oregon for this beverage. We will be trying the Cryo Stash Imperial IPA from Hop Valley Brewing Company out of Eugene Oregon. This beer features Simcoe Hops treated at sub zero temperatures. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Pueblo Vida Chroma IPA

This podcast begins a busy week for us here at About Beverages. As we mentioned last week, due to a busy December, while we continued to record videos we got behind in the actual sharing of those videos with you, our valued friend and viewer/listener. This will be the first of three that will be released this week and we will kick things off with a local brewery where we have previously encountered deliciousness. The beverage we will be trying is the Chroma from Pueblo Vida Brewing Company. Chroma is a series that they do where they brew an IPA and feature a new “craft maltster” with each release. This release features Admiral Maltings out of Alameda, California. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - La Cumbre Brewing Project Dank Winter Edition Double IPA

It has been too long since we last came to you via podcast or video and we are glad to say that we are back! We hope that you all have had a great season of celebrating and that your New Year is off to a healthy and happy start. We have had quite a busy time this past few months and while we have not been releasing videos on a regular basis, we have still been recording, as well as streaming live most Thursday evenings via Twitch. For our first release of the New Year we are traveling to a state with which we share a border. Before you guess California we say to you, “not so fast, my friend.” For this particular beverage we are heading to the state that borders us to the east, New Mexico, and to a brewery we are familiar with, yet have not featured on a podcast. The beverage we will be featuring on this podcast is the Project Dank from La Cumbre. According to their website, La Cumbre states that Project Dank is an “ever changing expression of their hoppiest endeavors.” This beer was recommended to us by Scott at Tap and Bottle, so we knew we were off to a good start.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.
