You never know when you first try a beverage if there was something wrong with either the drink itself or maybe the circumstances under which it was had. Whatever the case, it is always good to go back and try things again and that is what we are doing today. The St. Lupulin from Odell Brewing was a beer we tried almost two years ago at the recommendation of one of our listeners and contributors to the site, Eric Greene. At the time we were not fans of what we thought was a rather bland seasonal offering. Time has now past and at the behest of several listeners we are going to "Give It A Second Shot" and see if this ode to the resin found within the hop will change our minds. We've got two more beers this week, one of them is gluten-free and the other is something we tasted awhile back and are trying again. It all starts Tuesday, with a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Tweason'ale from Dogfish Head. It's a gluten-free beer made with sorghum, strawberries, and buckwheat honey. Then on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" featuring the seasonal from Odell Brewing, St. Lupulin. This is a beer we tasted almost two years ago and at the time it didn't make much of an impression. Since then several of our listeners have mentioned we should try that one again and we are more than happy to oblige. In our eyes there is only one thing you can call it, Vampire Slayer from Clown Shoes Beer. Normally this time of year in Arizona we are not even thinking about something this dark and heavy. Unless of course we're talking about the monsoons! But seriously folks, an American Double Imperial Stout is not normally on our hot weather drinking radar, but this beer seemed too interesting to pass up. Brewed in honor of their second anniversary and available for only a limited time, this brewery already brings some great marketing and a backbone of previous goodwill from their other beers. There are several beers available under the Mission Street label including the Mission Street IPA which we have previously reviewed on a podcast. They call this beer an Imperial Brown Ale which I think is stretching the boundaries a bit since this is actually a blend. It's comprised of 40% Reserve Porter, 20% Russian Imperial Stout, and 40% of what is essentially a Barley Wine. This is a very unique sounding beer we can't wait to try. Enjoy!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Oskar Blues Brewery Dale's Pale Ale & Old Chub Scotch Ale

The final day of our most recent beer in a can series is upon us and it involves a brewery that is no stranger to cans. In fact all of their beers come in cans. Oskar Blues Brewery out of Lyons, Colorado has been packaging their beer this way since 2002. Today in the tasting room we have two of them, Dale's Pale Ale and the Old Chub Scotch Ale. The styles of these beers are very different so it's not about comparing the two, it's more about finding beers in general that seem to work well in a can. We have tried two of their other beers in the past as well which you can find reviews of at out site, AboutBeverages.com. Our can runneth over into the beginning of this week with another two beers stored in that all to fascinating aluminum vessel. On Tuesday we will have a "Give It A Shot" featuring two beers from Oskar Blues Brewing. Dale's Pale Ale and the Old Chub Scotch Ale find their way to our tasting table for this final part to our one and a half week series. Then on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" featuring the Mission Street Anniversary Ale 2012. This is a Trader Joe's exclusive that came out toward the beginning of the year, but some stores do still have it available. Both beers are from Prescott Brewing and available across Arizona. First up will be the Liquid Amber Ale and then we will try the Ponderosa IPA. Two things stand out to me when visiting their site: One, these appear to be the only beers they are canning at this time and two, they also like to be very coy with their ABV. As in we can't find it anywhere. Surely they're under 6%, but if any of our listeners know the answer or if Prescott Brewing would let us know that would be appreciated. Leading off today in our continuing search for a great beer in a can is Mogollon Brewing and the Wapiti Amber Ale. Located in Flagstaff, Arizona and named after the Mogollon Rim which runs across the state. They currently brew five beers, but the only one being canned is the Wapiti. One other interesting side note is that in 2007 they formed High Spirits Distillery and became the first legal distillery in the state of Arizona. I noticed on the list of their spirits was a gin which is great, but also three vodkas. Nobodies perfect. Enjoy!
