I'm sure it was because this one is a little different since it is characterized as an oaked blonde barleywine. It's also possible that he's just a glutton for punishment. We will be trying a very unique beer on Tuesday for the "Give It A Shot". The Samuel Adams Griffins Bow is an oaked blonde barlweywine ale. This is one of four beers in their single release series, the others being: A chocolate chili bock called The vixen, a red IPA called Tasman Red, and a double IPA called Third Voyage. These seem to be easy to find at most stores, so we recommend picking one up and trying it along with us while you listen to the podcast on Tuesday. If have had any of the others in this series let us know about that too. Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info. In this episode we will be tasting something very close to our hearts, gin. We think we proved with our previous podcast and the follow up "Give It A Shot" that the gins we tried (and many of the new wave of "boutique" gins) are definitely NOT your grandfather's gin. They have a wonderfully mesmerizing balance of flavors and delicate nuances not found in other spirits. That being said, we have another batch of gins to try today that we hope will take us up another notch in our appreciation of this amazing libation. Since our last gin podcast, we have found another friend of the show who appears to love gin even more than we do! This is evidenced by the fact that he happily provided three of the four gins we will be trying on this podcast. His name is Eric (not Eric Greene, but this Eric's last name also begins with G) and he and Keith work together We will be tasting three new gins along with our favorite from the previous round, Hendrick's distilled in Scotland. The new power trio of gins that Eric brought with him to the tasting room are: 209 from Distillery No. 209 in Napa, Spruce from Rogue Spirits in Oregon, and Nolet's Silver from the Nolet Distillery in Holland. I'm still getting the hang of it, but I think with each video we do, it's only going to get better. I guess before I ramble anymore I should mention that the beverage being tasted today is the Dead Guy Ale from Rogue Brewing. Originally created to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead, this German style Maibock comes in at an ABV of 6.5% and has been around since the early 1990s. How it hadn't found its way to our tasting table until now is just crazy, but today we make things right. It's an unfiltered lager looking to bridge the gap between Winter and Summer. Although to our thinking he's going from a lighter lager in the Spring to a heavier ale in the Summer. Shouldn't that be reversed? We're probably over analysing that I suppose. This has become a much larger market over the last few years with breweries looking for new seasons to make special beers for. In fact it's almost like they've turned the year into micro seasons. We no longer simply have four, but more like eight or even twelve depending on the brewery. Whatever the reason, new beer options are always a good thing. Two more podcasts and two more beers is what we have on tap this week starting Tuesday with a "Give It A Shot" featuring Samuel Adams Alpine Spring. This seasonal unfiltered lager is available through March and was created in an attempt to bridge the gap between heavier winter brews and the lighter brews of summer. Wait, brews of summer? Isn't that a Don Henley song? Oh no that's Boys of Summer. Anyway, on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" featuring the Rogue Dead Guy Ale. This is definitely the beer I think of as their flagship and for some reason we have never had it. Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info. Our last week was pretty awesome here at the site as we made available the very first AboutBeverages.com App for use on all smartphones and tablets. Go to our website from either of those devices if you haven't downloaded it yet. That will be a difficult one to top, but we will sure try starting Tuesday with a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Paddleford Creek bourbon. It's not very expensive, only about $20, so we will see hot it directly compares to one of our favorites, the Bulleit. If you missed that podcast where we tried it and several others, you can find it in the archives. Then on Thursday we will have our first VIDEO "Give It A Shot" featuring Rogue Brewing's Voodoo Doughnut. This is another big first for us so we are quite excited about this as well. The video will be available through our youtube channel and directly on our site. We will still be providing an audio version of the podcast for those of you on the go or who have bandwidth issues, but if you want to see us and what we're drinking check out the video. Of course I'm paraphrasing, but who cares when it comes to the latest collaboration beer involving The Bruery, Elysian, and Stone Brewing. The beer, called La Citrueille Celeste de Citracado, is an ale made with pumpkin, yams, toasted fenugreek, lemon verbena, and birch bark. Sounds crazy and exciting all at the same time. That's why we love trying these unique experiments. Let us know if you have had it and what you think in the comments. Enjoy!
</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.aboutbeverages.com/journal/2012/1/10/aboutbeveragescom-official-mobile-app.html"><rss:title>AboutBeverages.com Official Mobile App</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.aboutbeverages.com/journal/2012/1/10/aboutbeveragescom-official-mobile-app.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Android Mobile App News News Windows iPad iPhone</dc:subject>
I know we said it would be a few weeks in the last "On the horizon..." post, but we can't wait any longer. We continue the search for the ultimate beer in a can thanks to San Tan Brewing in Chandler, Arizona. Their Devil's Ale or Pale Ale to be precise, is available year round and is close to sessionable at 5.5% ABV. One other note. We apologize for the audio being a little on the echo side for about the first 40 seconds. We are working through some new equipment and unfortunately a setting had gotten tweaked. We've got two podcasts this week for your listening pleasure along with an announcement. On Tuesday we will have the first "Give It A Shot" recorded this year featuring a continuation of one of our long standing journeys, a great beer in a can. The path now leads us to San Tan Brewing in Chandler Arizona for their Devil's Ale. Then on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" featuring a collaboration beer from Stone Brewing, The Bruery, and Elysian. Now for the announcement. In the next week or two you will be able to download the official AboutBeverages.com App! We will make it first available through a link directly on the website that you can access using your iPhone, Android, or Windows phone. The app will contain no ads and will simply be a more intuitive way for you to stay in touch with AboutBeverages while on the go. We are very excited about this new development for our site and can't wait to get some feedback as to what our listeners think about it. Perseverance Ale is named after a local mine in the are that closed over 6o years ago, but still holds strong in the hearts of all who live and work in the area. Made with birch syrup, fireweed honey, and some of their alder-smoked malts, this Russian Imperial Stout should be a feast for the senses. Enjoy!
</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
