Give It A Shot - Elysian Brewing The Great Pumpkin Imperial Ale

We have made it! This week brings the final installment of our yearly pumpkin beer odyssey, the 2018 version. On this show we find ourselves visiting the same brewery as our first pumpkin beer from this year, Elysian. It’s the Great Pumpkin, actually, the Great Pumpkin Imperial ale, that is. Like the Night Owl, this beer is also brewed with real pumpkin (one of our prerequisites to be included on our show), but it is an Imperial Ale and comes in at 8%ABV.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Breckenridge Brewery Nitro Pumpkin Spice Latte

For the third installment of our pumpkin beer podcast series we turned to a beer that is not your everyday pumpkin beer. This one has a lot going on inside its 16oz aluminum can. Not only is it a pumpkin spice beer, it is also pumpkin, nitro, coffee, and a stout. Whew, we hope we didn’t forget to list anything. The beer we will be trying on this podcast is the Breckinridge Brewery Nitro Fall Seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte Pumpkin Coffee Stout. We were hoping for something different yet deliciously seasonal.  What did we think? Give It A Shot - Schlafly Beer Pumpkin Ale

We are back and diving further into pumpkin beer madness this week. The calendar has finally turned to October and somehow it just feels better to be tasting these types of beers during this month. The first beer up is the Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. Not only is this beer a newcomer to our show, but the brewery is as well. A long time fixture in the St. Louis brewing scene, their beers have only recently been made available for us here in the southwest. This pumpkin ale uses fresh pumpkin and comes in at a robust 8% ABV.  What did we think? Give It A Shot - Elysian Brewing Night Owl Pumpkin Ale

As the calendar turns to September, many people begin to look forward with much anticipation to all things pumpkin. If it can be turned orange or have pumpkin pie related spices added to it, then most likely that is going to happen. We won’t bore you with a list of pumpkin products, but obviously included in that list is pumpkin beer. Here at About Beverages we have quite an extensive history with pumpkin beer as we have had a show devoted to them pretty much since the beginning. One of us enjoys them (when they are done right) and one of us feels pretty much tortured by them, with a few exceptions. Regardless of preference, it always makes for entertaining discussion and laughter will ensue. This week begins our 2018 foray into the world of pumpkin beer. The beer we are starting with is the Night Owl from Elysian Brewing. It is an ale brewed with real pumpkin as well as roasted and raw pumpkin seeds.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Kings of Prohibition Cabernet Shiraz Red Blend

One of our goals at About Beverages that we speak of often, both on air and off, is that we need to be better at giving our followers and listeners more advance notice as to what we will be trying on our podcasts. It is a definite growth area for us and we promise you we will get better. There is a benefit to this more relaxed style as it does allow for more spontaneity when something unexpectedly presents itself. Such is the case this week. We will be trying the Kings of Prohibition Australian red wine blend from Trader Joe’s, which just recently hit the shelves. It is a blend of Cabernet and Shiraz from the Barossa Valley and it comes in a cool looking bottle with a nice backstory and tie in to the effects of prohibition around the world.  What did we think? Give It A Shot - Modern Times Beer Space Ways Hazy Nelson IPA

A new beer release from one of your favorite breweries is definitely a reason to get excited. Even with so many new beers available from so many great new and established “suds houses,” there are still those offerings from certain places that we look forward to a little more than the others. This weeks podcast definitely features one of those breweries and their latest seasonal offering which is also a brand new addition to their lineup. This podcast finds us jumping palate first into the Space Ways from Modern Times Beer. It is a hazy IPA featuring Nelson, Simcoe, and Motueka hops. One of us was so excited to try this beer he didn’t wait for the podcast to try it for the first time. He has since been disciplined and it won’t happen again. Listen to the podcast to find out who has trouble with delaying his beer gratification.  What did we think? Give It A Shot - Dragoon Brewing No School Double IPA

This week we are going to try something new from one of our favorite local brewing establishments. This particular brewery first had the distinction of being featured on one of our podcasts shortly after they opened back in 2012. Even though up until now that has been their only appearance on a podcast, over the past 6 years we have enjoyed numerous pints and growlers of their beers. From their flagship IPA, to the release of their first sour beer last year, Dragoon Brewing Company can always be counted on for something fresh and delicious. For this podcast we are trying the No School IIPA, which is their take on a classic American Double IPA.  What did we think? Give It A Shot - The Bruery Mischief Dry-Hopped With Citra And Motueka

One of our favorite things to do is to go shopping for beers. We are usually seeking out something new or unique, hoping at the very least to find something we have not yet tried. Even when on vacation (usually in California), beer shopping is frequently on the itinerary as we are on the lookout for beers we can’t find in Arizona. In the last few years the list of breweries that do not distribute to Arizona has drastically shrunk in size with one unfortunate notable exception (this means YOU, Russian River). Why is all of this relevant? The answer is simple. The beer we are trying on this podcast was purchased in So Cal. While beers from this brewery are available in Arizona, this was still intriguing enough to make it into the cooler for the ride home. The beer we are trying this week is the Mischief from the Bruery. This particular Mischief features a dousing of Citra and Motueka hops and is a limited edition.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.
