AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Second Shot - Odell Brewing St. Lupulin Extra Pale Ale

We are not above admitting a mistake if one has been made.  You never know when you first try a beverage if there was something wrong with either the drink itself or maybe the circumstances under which it was had.  Whatever the case, it is always good to go back and try things again and that is what we are doing today.  The St. Lupulin from Odell Brewing was a beer we tried almost two years ago at the recommendation of one of our listeners and contributors to the site, Eric Greene.  At the time we were not fans of what we thought was a rather bland seasonal offering.  Time has now past and at the behest of several listeners we are going to "Give It A Second Shot" and see if this ode to the resin found within the hop will change our minds.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Dogfish Head Tweason'ale Gluten Free Beer

With gluten-free beer options on the rise we decided to look to one of our favorite breweries and see what they could come up with.  The Tweason'ale from Dogfish Head is a mixture of sorghum, strawberries, and buckwheat honey.  Sold seasonally four times a year and coming in at 6% ABV, this beer is intended for those who suffer from Celiac disease or are simply looking to cut back on gluten.  While we do not fall into either of those categories, we still are excited for a new taste experience.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

What's on tap for the week of May 28th - June 3rd 2012

Just a little reminder of what will be going on at AboutBeverages.com for the week of May 28th - June 3rd 2012.  We've got two more beers this week, one of them is gluten-free and the other is something we tasted awhile back and are trying again.  It all starts Tuesday, with a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Tweason'ale from Dogfish Head.  It's a gluten-free beer made with sorghum, strawberries, and buckwheat honey.  Then on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" featuring the seasonal from Odell Brewing, St. Lupulin.  This is a beer we tasted almost two years ago (previous podcast can be found here) and at the time it didn't make much of an impression.  Since then several of our listeners have mentioned we should try that one again and we are more than happy to oblige.  Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info.  Click the link here to get to our twitter page.  Also, don't forget to check out our channel on youtube and if you go to our website from your mobile phone you can also get our app!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Sierra Nevada Brewing Kellerweis Hefeweizen

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Available year round, the Sierra Nevada Kellerweis is a hefeweizen in the most classic of ways.  It's one of the only American Hefeweizens to use open style fermentation, a very labor-intensive process.  Like the Rogue Hefeweizen earlier in the week, it also falls into the sessionable category at 4.8%.  Not to continue with the comparisons, but I will, they both share a hop in common, Sterling.  Time to stop talking and start tasting!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Rogue Brewing Mom Hefeweizen

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Rogue Brewing kicks of our week long salute to the hefeweizen with a beer simply called Mom Hefeweizen.  It's very similar to a beer that can be found year round called Haf-E-Weizen, but that particular version does not appear to incorporate the infusion of rose petals and rose water.  Like most beers in this style, it's very sessionable at only 4.8% ABV.  The real question is, will we want to have more than one?  Time to find out.

What's on tap for the week of May 21st - May 27th 2012

Just a little reminder of what will be going on at AboutBeverages.com for the week of May 21st - May 27th 2012.  It's Hefeweizen week here at the site and we've got two beers that come at the style from very different ways.  On Tuesday we'll have a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Mom Hefeweizen from Rogue Brewing.  This particular beer can be found year round under the name Haf-E-Weizen.  The unique addtion to the "Mom" version is that it's infused with rose water and rose petals.  Then on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" with the Kellerweise from Sierra Nevada Brewing.  What's their twist?  They go old school and use the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation.  Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info.  Click the link here to get to our twitter page.  Also, don't forget to check out our channel on youtube and if you go to our website from your mobile phone you can also get our app!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer American Imperial Stout

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  What do you call a beer made with holy water and smoked with vampire killing stakes?  In our eyes there is only one thing you can call it, Vampire Slayer from Clown Shoes Beer.  Normally this time of year in Arizona we are not even thinking about something this dark and heavy.  Unless of course we're talking about the monsoons!  But seriously folks, an American Double Imperial Stout is not normally on our hot weather drinking radar, but this beer seemed too interesting to pass up.  Brewed in honor of their second anniversary and available for only a limited time, this brewery already brings some great marketing and a backbone of previous goodwill from their other beers.  Let's hope this creature of the night isn't afraid to come out during the light of our podcast and show our palates a good time.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Kim Crawford Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Switching hemispheres and styles for the show today we head down to New Zealand.  Specifically the Marlborough region for the Kim Crawford Pinot Noir 2010.  Our first experience with this winemaker was with their Sauvignon Blanc which if you haven't had it, is very good and not to be missed.  Obviously these are different grapes varieties, but coming from the same region it will be interesting to see if any similar terroir comes through on the palate.

Just a little reminder of what will be going on at AboutBeverages.com for the week of May 7th - May 13th 2012.  It's imported wine week here on the site and we have two very different wines to share with you.  It all starts Tuesday with a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Badet Clamet Revelation Chardonnay 2010.  This particular wine is designated as Vin de Pays d'Oc, or "wines of the country", and comes from the Languedoc-Roussillon area in Mediterranean France.  Then on Thursday we change hemispheres for a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Kim Crawford Pinot Noir 2010.  Grown in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, this is where most of the wines under the Kim Crawford label are made.  Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info.  Click the link here to get to our twitter page.  Also, don't forget to check out our channel on youtube and if you go to our website from your mobile phone you can also get our app!
