Give It A Shot - Lagunitas Brewing Phase Change Wet-Hopped Juicy Ale

For this episode, we return to a tried and true formula for deciding on what beverage we will try on our show. This specific formula essentially involves Keith going into work on Wednesday and finding that something new has been delivered to the store. It has worked in the past, and this last week was no different. That formula also brought us back to one of our favorite breweries. There is a certain comfort in that, but fear not, as we will soon make a move out of our comfort zone. However, that will not happen this week. The beverage we are trying this week is the Phase Change Wet-Hopped Juicy Ale from Lagunitas Brewing Company. Their website mentions that it is an unfiltered, juicy nectar, made from the freshest of hops right after the harvest. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Mother Road Brewing Spring Lager

There are times in life when you make unexpected discoveries. Sometimes those discoveries are actual things, sometimes they are personal revelations. In the case of the beverage we are going to try tonight, it was both. On a recent trip to Northern Arizona, Keith found himself having a flight of beers at a local brewery. Technically, he wasn’t alone as he was surrounded by several others enjoying an adult beverage, but since he did not go there with anyone, he felt like he was there by himself. That was discovery number 1; to realize that he had sat down at a bar by himself and ordered a beer, which is something he hadn’t done before. Discovery number two was one of the beers in his flight. A beer he felt was interesting enough to purchase a small growler of and bring home. That beer is the Mother Road spring lager and it is what we will be trying on this episode. As our tastes tend to lean more toward ales, we are always on the lookout for a lager that we could enjoy. Unfortunately, this lager is only available seasonally and at the brewery, but if you find yourself in Flagstaff Arizona at the right time, you could be in luck. What did we think? Give It A Shot - Adalina Bodegas Verdejo 2017 and 2018

We have some good news and not as good news for you this week. The not as good news is that we will only have one episode for you to enjoy. The good news is that we will actually try two beverages on that one episode as we will be comparing different vintages of the same wine. The reason we only have one show is because we did a little gaming for the last half of our time live-streaming last week and we enjoyed a Plymouth martini while we did. The martini paired well with our game play, but more importantly, we enjoyed it to toast the memory of our Uncle Joe who passed away last week. We have many wonderful memories of our parents getting together with our Uncle Joe and Aunt Donna. One of our favorites would begin in the late afternoon when it was time to make dinner. They would tell stories, laugh, prepare delicious food and beverages and enjoy every minute of their time together. Kind of like we do here on our shows and podcasts. Who knows, maybe the seeds of our podcast go back even farther than we thought. One of their beverages of choice was a martini, so it seemed most appropriate for us to honor his memory in that way. Now back to the show…

This week will be trying the Adalina Spanish Verdejo wine, both the 2017 and 2018 vintages. The wine is 100% Verdejo and while we had heard good things about the 2017 vintage, the reports had been mixed on the 2018. Keith just happened to have a bottle of the 2017 in his fridge, so we thought we would take advantage of this fortuitous event and do a comparison to settle the debate once and for all.  What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila

This episode is going to feature a type of beverage we like but do not have very often on our show. What makes this particular beverage special and intriguing to us is that it spends a good amount of time in oak whiskey barrels. I guess at this time it would be good to point out that it is not a whiskey. Without further adieu, we present to you the beverage for this episode, the Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila. We mentioned before that it is aged in oak whiskey barrels, but wait, there’s more! It also spends an additional two months in specially toasted barrels for extra complexity. All of this talk of oak barrels and toasty goodness has made us thirsty, so let the sipping begin! What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Kisses Betwixt Collaboration Beer from The Bruery Terreux & Dogfish Head

It is rare that both of us aren’t feeling well on a Thursday night that we are planning on live-streaming and recording podcasts, but that is exactly the scenario we encountered last week. The end result of something like that happening is that it just makes us hungrier (or thirstier) when we come back the next week. This episode marks the beginning of that week and we have something to try that has all the makings of being a real treat. Recently, Andrew, his wife, and two friends of the show (let’s call them H & J) were fortunate enough to attend an event and Tap and Bottle’s downtown location. It was a tasting featuring several items from The Bruery and what we will be trying is one of the items that Andrew bought while he was there. For today’s show we will feature the Kisses Betwixt which is a collaboration beer from The Bruery Terreux and Dogfish Head. It is blend of two beers, the Mr. This is Ridiculous and the Mrs. This is Ridiculous. Andrew was able to try the two beers that make up this blend separately, but true to his values, he has not yet tried the blend. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - De Mont Coteaux Varois en Provence Rosé 2018

Due to some unfortunate time limitations, we will only have one episode to share with you this week. Next week we should be back to our normal schedule and have the extra content that you have come to expect from us. Even though the quantity is less, we hope that the quality will be more and that it will be worth it for you and for us as we switch gears to wine, and an organic wine to boot. The warm temperatures are already beginning here in the southwest so our thoughts turned to something best served chilled. A Sauvignon blanc or a rose, perhaps. After a little perusing at our local Trader Joe’s, we settled on a rose. The beverage we will be trying on today’s show is the De Mont rose made with organically grown grapes from the Provence region of France. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Lagunitas Brewing The Waldos' Special Ale

In the spirit of sharing, which is what we are all about at About Beverages, we want you to know that our unintended run of episodes featuring beverages or beverage categories that we have never tried before ends with this show. It had to end sooner or later, and at least what we will be featuring on this show is something we have enjoyed in the past. A trusted extremely limited-release from an experienced brewery which we hope will be worthy of being known as the beverage that ended that brief, unintended run. For this podcast, we will be trying The Waldos’ Special Ale from Lagunitas Brewing. For the past several years, Lagunitas has released this beer around April 20th, in honor of the origins of 420. They say it is the dankest and hoppiest beer they have ever brewed and comes in at 11.7% ABV. What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Give It A Shot - Prescott Brewing Lodgepole Light Cream Ale

Due to a cinematic “once in a lifetime” event, we had to take last week off from providing you with exciting and informative beverage related content but we are back and raring to go. We were discussing what to do this week for our shows and with a snap of our fingers we came up with an idea. We made half of our choices disappear with that snap, but at least we didn’t have quite as many things to choose from. Picking up right where we last left off, we will continue our theme of trying sub-categories of beverages that we have never before tried on our podcasts. We will be trying a beer, but one that falls into a category that we are relatively unfamiliar with. The beer we are trying for this episode is the Lodgepole Light Cream Ale from Prescott Brewing Company. Cream ale is described as “clean, easily drinkable and refreshing” by the BJCP and “mild and light bodied with no hop aroma and very little hop flavor” by Prescott Brewing’s website. At least we have been forewarned… What did we think? What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.
